It is not an enemy who taunts me— I could bear that. It is not my foes who so arrogantly insult me— I could have hidden from them. Instead, it is you—my equal, my companion and close friend. What good fellowship we once enjoyed as we walked together to the house of God.
Psalm 55:12-14 (NLT)

More often than not, it is those closest to us who we have the ability to hurt and who have the ability to hurt us. So, be intentional in relationships, mend hurts and heal division.

And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay.
Mark 2:4 (NRS)

Today we visited Nazareth, where the local YMCA showcased a replica of what the town may have been like when Jesus lived there. The roof of this temple, like the one where Jesus read from the scrolls of the prophet, Isaiah, was similar to the one that the paralyzed man may have been lowered down from. Digging through layers of rock, hardened mud and thatched hay, imagine the faith and determination it must have taken to lower the paralyzed man to Jesus!

The Daily Verse will be traveling to Israel over the next two weeks and we’ll be documenting our travels and discoveries on our Facebook Page, Instagram and Twitter! We welcome you to join in on the adventure!

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:4,5 (NIV)

The punishment that brought us peace was on him. Jesus thank you for your sacrifice and for your peace. Both surpass our understanding. May we remain ever so grateful.

So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.'”
John 5:10,11 (ESV)

Legalism and tradition weren’t important to the man who was healed after being an invalid for 38 years. Follow what Jesus says, and loose the bonds of legalism and old thinking.

I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.
Isaiah 41:18 (ESV)

If life has felt like a parched desert, take courage. God will bring restoration, healing and hope!

He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
Micah 7:19 (ESV)

God is bigger than our weakness, our sin, our inabilities, and beyond that, has compassion on us in light of them.
